Information & Procedures
A Dental Bridge is an artificial device to replace one or more teeth.
Benefits
It is very important to keep your teeth, crowns and bridges clean. Practice good dental hygiene by brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing regularly. Remember the success or failure of your crowns or bridges depends greatly upon the care you provide and on periodical visits to the dentist. The health of your mouth and personal appearance are worth the effort!
Procedure
To replace a lost tooth with bridgework, adjoining teeth must be prepared for the crowns. The tooth and crowns are put together as a single piece and cemented to adjoining stumps. Once in place, the patient cannot remove the bridge. The procedure is similar to a crown but it takes longer to build the bridge.
In some cases, a resin-based bridge called Maryland may be used. It does not require treating adjoining teeth or extensive preparation. Your dentist will choose the proper technique for your situation. Bridges can be supported by dental implants integrated to the bone.
