Knee Arthroscopy

Arthroscopic orthopedic surgery involves inserting a small camera into the knee joint.  Entry is made through a small incision and the entire area is examined for possible problems. Typically joint problems are a result of sports activities.

Benefits
Knee surgery is performed in the following cases:

  • A torn meniscus
  • A damaged bone (kneecap or patella)
  • A damaged ligament
  • Inflamed or damaged lining of the joint (synovium)

Arthroscopy is also used to look inside the knee joint. Ligaments and tendons are repaired from the outside.

Procedure
Knee surgery is performed through small punctures in the joints while the patient is under general anesthesia.

Generally, you can leave the hospital 24 hours after surgery. Recovery time and the need for physiotherapy are determined according to the repaired area and the results of the procedure.

Hospitalization
Does not require hospitalization.

Time
Arthroscopy lasts from 45 minutes to 60 minutes.
